Hey all!
I have talked about Murad on my Instagram previously and I got a Christmas pressie from Santa that I thought I’d share with you. My mum introduced me to Murad Skincare. My mum LOVES skincare and she watches loads of Youtube. Her fav is Caroline Hirons and whenever I’m home I try all Mums products.
When my eczema and skin in general wasn’t good – I just stuck to my very simple standard products, nothing cosmetic, just normal gentle products for sensitive skin. But when my skin felt a bit better I’d try Mums stuff. Mum has really sensitive skin too so she does a lot of trial and error and I try and copy!
Dr Murad is (obviously), a doctor. His skincare was founded in 1989 and uses scientifically proven healthcare and technologies and I think that’s so important when using stronger products / retinol.
In his own words: “Dr. Murad identifies “Cultural Stress™:—the unrelenting day–to–day stress of modern living—as a major factor contributing to the chronic exhaustion, declining health of people of all ages and a significant impactor of skin health.”
This forms a lot of what the brand produces and I have gotten on very well with their products since trying their retinol range since my skin healed from eczema.
Retinol, also known as vitamin A, is an ingredient that promotes skin renewal and enhances collagen production (which starts to decline in your 30s). As well as lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, retinol can also reverse some of the side effects of sun damage.
Retinol is very strong though, and can be too harsh for sensitive skin. But not the Murad Retinol Serum range which is a great thing to get if you want to try it all out – it has worked super well with my Skin. Murad is the only eye cream so far I haven’t reacted to, and their retinol night cream does not irritate my skin at all. It’s so gentle yet effective and I think if you are experimenting with Retinol – this is a good place to start.
Don’t forget to wear your spf! And please tell me what you think if you try it!
A few other products you might want to try also! I got to attend ‘A Moment of Calm’ event with Murad Skincare and I learned so much. So I’m sharing with you guys! We attended a session by Tracey Wilmot – their head of education for the launch of their new intense recovery cream. It’s not creamy, its a rich formula quite like emollient cream. So it’s great for eczema.
In March 2020, Unilever did a study that showed modern life negatively impacts skin, and it’s so so true. Being stressed = stressed skin = compromised skin barrier.
Cortisol is a stress hormone – it’s fight or flight (not for long time periods). But because of modern life, long hours, high levels of cortisol remain in the body and have a negative effect on skin. It breaks down collagen (line free and plump skin), reduces barrier lipids, skin feels drier and less hydrated. It slows down skin cell turnover and leaves your skin prone to breakouts or more flakey.
There’s been a huge increase in inflammatory concerns, redness, reactive skin as modern life takes its toll. High cortisol impacts the skin barrier, making it harder to recover. Skin is first line of defence, it supports us. But it also suffers when we are suffering.
Menopause can also increase skin dryness. And the weather.
This new product is great for all of the above. It is ophthalmologist tested, so you can apply it around the delicate eye area (stressed skin = puffy eyes, fatigue, dryness). It’s called ‘Intense Recovery Cream‘.
For Hydration – it has shea butter and macadamia oil. Rich in omega 6,7,9. Macadamia has the richest store of omega 7 which depletes with age and we therefore lose more moisture.
It contains Mirabilis jalapa, the marvel of Peru or pink flower. It boosts ceramides and hyaluronic acid , boots Filaggrin (binds cells together). It reduces skin discomfort signals that cause inflammatory redness response
In a trail, 89% of people showed improvement in redness. So it’s therefore recommended as a recovery cream and you have to let it do its work. It goes well under make up for dry reactive red skin! It’s slightly green in colour, green is opposite to red.
Is it non-comedogenic – it won’t cause spots or clog your pores. It contains lots of natural ingredients (turmeric, aubergine) so that explains the colour.
A few other products I am trying: the Murad Revitalixir Recovery Serum. Each pump contains relaxing neuropeptide and cannabis seed oil, reviving nicinamide and caffeine to transform skin from stressed to vibrant. I like investing in expensive serums because they are full of amazing ingredients.
The last product I have is the Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum
I am upping my vitamin c for hyperpigmentation, dull and uneven skin tone. I did a recent IGTV live with a Skin GP (Dr Johanna Ward) and she said how important it is to use antioxidants. So I am trying Vit C and I know it works wonders so cannot wait to see results 🙂
Overall – I just love Murad Skincare. It’s scientific, top quality, gorgeous packaging and really leaves with you noticeable results. It has a high price point, so introduce one product at a time to see if it’s really worth it for you!
